Spin wave propagation in spatially nonuniform magnetic fields

چکیده
Spin wave pulse propagation in a magnetic thin film under static, spatially nonuniform magnetic fields has been studied. The experiment was carried out with an yttrium iron garnet film strip. The film strip was magnetized with a spatially nonuniform magnetic field parallel to the length of the film strip. Spin wave pulses were excited with a microstrip transducer at one end of the film strip. The spin wave pulse propagation along the film strip was mapped with a high-resolution timeand space-resolved inductive magnetodynamic probe. The wave number for the spin wave pulses was found to increase in a spatially increasing field and decrease in a spatially decreasing field. The wave number change in a static, general spatially varying static field is reversible for this field-film geometry. The phase velocity was found to decrease in a spatially increasing magnetic field and increase in a spatially decreasing field. The carrier frequency of the spin wave pulses remained constant throughout pulse propagation. © 2008 American Institute of Physics. DOI: 10.1063/1.2963688

Plasma control by modification of helicon wave propagation in low magnetic fields
By making use of nonuniform magnetic fields, it is shown experimentally that control of helicon wave propagation can be achieved in a low pressure 0.08 Pa expanding plasma. The m=1 helicon waves are formed during a direct capacitive to wave mode transition that occurs in a low diverging magnetic field B0 3 mT . In this initial configuration, waves are prevented from reaching the downstream regi...

متن کاملImaging small-amplitude magnetization dynamics in a longitudinally magnetized microwire
We have used time-resolved scanning Kerr microscopy to study spin waves in a magnetic microwire subjected to a bias magnetic field applied parallel to its long axis. The spin-wave spectra obtained from different points near one end of the wire reveal several normal modes. We found that modes of a higher frequency occupied regions located further from the end of the wire. This was interpreted in...

We develop a microscopic theory of finite-temperature spin-nematic orderings in three-dimensional spatially anisotropic magnets consisting of weakly coupled frustrated spin-1/2 chains with nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor couplings in a magnetic field. Combining a field theoretical technique with density-matrix renormalization group results, we complete finite-temperature phase diagra...
متن کاملFerrohydrodynamic pumping in spatially uniform sinusoidally time-varying magnetic fields
Past work has analyzed ferrofluid pumping in a planar duct driven by spatially non-uniform traveling wave magnetic fields. Here we examine a much simpler case where the applied magnetic fields along and transverse to the duct axis are spatially uniform and varying sinusoidally with time. In the uniform magnetic field the magnetization characteristic depends on particle spin but does not depend ...
